Question about part 135 charter

No, you cannot be legally on call for 24 hours a day indefinitely.

What was the question?

Actually, there is a loophole. If your company tells you that you don't ever have to answer your phone -- even though you'd sure as s*!t better answer if you want to keep your job -- you can be considered on a "continual rest period" and be on-call 24-7. Yeah!

"Prospective Rest" closed that loophole. If the FAA chose to, they could shut down almost every 135 op in the US. For some reason, operators like "create" ways to avoid it. There is no "continual rest" period. It is like the old scam: We gave you 24 hrs off in Duluth, that was your day off. :banghead:

Perhaps I should have said: "loophole."

Considering whether to publish the new company policy (yes it's in writing, and of course with no identifying information) for your amusement.

Probably a really bad idea...

Is this the real question or is this a tangent?

You really have to look out for yourself when it comes to rest time because the FAA will come down in the pilot, big time.

Might make me feel good. You should see some of the company policies over here.

Yeah, I just realized the question was never actually asked.
I just figured if somebody is new to 135, and asking important questions without asking, that would be one of the top questions they had.

Since he still has not asked publicly another question, I am assuming this was one of the questions. I did get asked another question by PM, but will not post it. It was not a bad question at all...I just figured he asked in private, so I will respect it.

Understandable.
