Career Timeline

For the guys and gals looking towards aviation as a career, I offer my timeline for those considering taking the plunge.ffice:office"
<o></o>
I received my Private in April of 2008 and worked quickly to get thru my CFI, MEI, CFII during the next 5 months.
<o></o>
October 2008 through recent I work as a CFI in Florida and managed about 1600TT / 500multi
<o></o>
In about 10 days I start training for a FO position flying either a Saab340 or Q400 for a regional airline.
<o></o>
I was torn about taking the FO job as the pay will be challenging, but it is a foot in the door and a possibility of an upgrade down the road.
<o></o>
Despite the tough times, it is possible to make a living and survive doing a job I love. In less than 2 years I have learned to fly, teach others to fly, and hopefully soon will be at the controls of a turbine machine in the part 121 world
<o></o>
On a side note: I didnot train at a big name, big money school and that shaved my student loan payment in half. It has been discussed here before, and in my case my current and new employer did not care where I earned my ratings, rather how I flew and what I knew. I am not discrediting big aviation schools, just offering an opinion to an alternative for those who need to look elsewhere.
<o></o>
Hope this helps someone.
<o></o>
Also, a sincere thank you for all those here who have helped along the way. Many people here have helped more than they will know and I look forward to paying that forward.<o></o>

Your results may (WILL) vary...

I started training/college in 2003... I'm yet to top 1,000 hours, and I have no possibilities of flying one of those shiny loud things any time soon.

Where I though I'd be: flying for a regional.

Where I am: turning wrenches in AK.

Dude...cut and paste into something like WORD, spend 5 minutes "cleaning it up" then repost. Seeing all your smiles makes my head spin.

I bet your one of those that forwards an e-mail that has been forwarded 674 times and has this:

I'm just sayin'....:D

Before I left for flight school I read a lot of negative about a pilot career, but I did it anyway. I have a close friend ( He's here on JC, met him here actually! ) who is in a very similiar position with an almost identical timeline as were a few of guys I met at the interview.

By no means was this to put my achievements on a pedestal, simply encouragment.

out of curiosity, what regional are you going to?

No need to add.

I think he was (as well as I) just adding that this isnt the norm by any means, since his post is for prospective pilots who might want to get in this industry.

And to the OP, I didnt think you were flaunting your accomplishments - good work, very quick progression.

I can't wait to read your posts in a few months when you'll be bitching about the pay, never being at home, being abused on reserve, etc. But hey, like you said "you'll be at the controls of a turbine machine in the part 121 world".

Ouch! Let me relish the moment for a minute at least. But seriously, I know there is some pain on the horizon. I also fear I left a secure job to only get furload in a few months. I am hoping the "no reward without risk" saying will prove true. Oh man.... the pay

Well, I thought i would ask and now i know. I think anyone whos read any of my post knows how i feel about regionals, but come on, no need to piss on anyones parade. As far as we know, he didnt PFJ, and probably got pretty lucky.

FWIW, I've exchanged a couple PM's and have explained, in a gentle (for me) way that shiny t-props arent the end all be all.

Is that a new kind of porn?
