It's just a uniform, no need to be so fussy about it! I went to DAB and to be honest thought the uniforms were decent enough, and as long as you didn't do something insane with your hair they let you wear it however you pleased.

Kind of miss being able to just randomly dye my hair blue though... Or botching with black dye and winding up with green hair!

I instruct out of DAB, but NOT for riddle. Still have to wear the uniforms. I think they look professional although i dont care for them. the problem with them is they seem to make all the instructors think they are airline pilots....

Interesting how when we're student pilots, we brag about how much we're flying, but when we go to the professional aviation side, we brag about how little we fly.

Just like uniforms! There are neophytes that can't wait to "Pimp the Trio", but most professional pilots can't wait to get changed out of it and into civvies.

Doug: I think the issue for some people is that they may be proud to wear a Captains uniform when you are actually a captain of something....like a Boeing 747. But wearing 4 stripes while flying around in a raggity old Cessna 152 can be......embarassing. I always remove my stripes and wings when grabbing lunch or whatever between flights for fear of being asked "boeing or airbus."

See, if you guys were flying Tomahawks, you could at least say, "P-38!"

This is exactly the same with the military, too...except we don't brag how little we fly when we get older. It's sport to bitch about how little you do fly compared to how much desk time you log. I'd certainly rather go fly every day -- twice a day -- if I could.

The uniform issue is the same, though. On the Air Force OTS Forum I participate in, there are frequent threads where newbies are asking, "is it okay to wear my uniform to....", with many boldly stating that "I *will* wear it to church!" and "I am going to wear it to my High School reunion," etc.

Like you, Doug, when you wear a uniform every day, it tends to lose it's luster regardless of what it "means".
