United diverts to DEN after passenger tries to open door.

Re: United diverts to DEN after passenger tries to open door

LOL looks like somebody got the party started early. He must have not heard that for "it" to stay in Vegas, "it" actually needs to occur in Vegas.

Re: United diverts to DEN after passenger tries to open door

TSA is going to ban passengers. Trying to get ahead of any potential backlash they're releasing a public statement stating that it is not because it would make their job easier, they stand around and do nothing already.

+1 for the passengers for kicking his arse! This, ladies and gentlemen is why we do not need the TSA.

Re: United diverts to DEN after passenger tries to open door

Worst part is that I'd probably just watch him yank on the door to entertain myself and watch people freak out for no reason! ;)

"Pilot!!!! Do something!"

"It's alright ma'am, basic physics is handling the situation nicely!"

I'm waiting for the FAA to outlaw flying in general.

Isn't there a possibility of decompression as result? Or is it that tight of a seal even without the locking mechanism engaged?

Re: United diverts to DEN after passenger tries to open door

SWAG numbers just for conversation:

9 PSI (pounds per square inch) pressurization
Door 3' wide x 6.5' tall.

3 x 12 x 6.5 x 12 = 2808 square inches
2808 x 9 = 25,272 pounds of pressure holding the door shut.
Good luck pulling that baby open!

(Probably not real accurate on the numbers used, but you get the point!)

You "can't" open the door while pressurized.

FAIL!

Sure, I boarded a pax going to YYC on a flight to EUG once, but she was a grown up.:bandit: Seriously tho, 100 segment a year frequent flyer and she doesn't realize the plane isn't going to YYC. Yes, my fault in the end, but still...

...no, the bigger question I guess that everyones not asking is. If he was on the wrong plane how would opening the door at FL370, get him on either the right plane. Or at the right destination!

He was just watching one of the moving air-maps and tried to strategically plan his jump, duh. Then again if he were that resourceful, he would have found the right flight to begin with.
