That's it,

I think a person has to absolutely be infatuated with aviation in order to make the sacrifices to really want to make a career out of it.

I first got my undergrad in Aviation and worked my butt off to get my cfi and time build and for the past 6 years i've constantly been waiting for the industry to improve and it has yet to happen. So on the side I received another B.S. in Sports Medicine and I was always interested in PT and Chiro from being injured as an athlete. I've finally decided that i can't wait another 5 years for the Aviation industry to improve.

Kind of a joke: The say you know you're crazy if you do the same thing and keep expecting the same outcome. And Ijust feel crazy to keep telling myself and my friedns and family that the industry will pick up and the quality of life will get better. I gave it my best shot and I really do think the best office in the world is a cockpit; I just don't think I have it in me any more to keep pressing on and making more and more sacrifices.

I'm not trying to offend anyone that contiunes to press on with a career in aviation. Lots of people have obviously made it happen and are very happy; It's just not for me I guess.

I guess this is what culling of the weak is all about lol.

6 years? You must've not tried very hard. 6 years ago I graduated college, instructed for 2 years, and had about 2 dozen interviews after doing that ranging from 135 freight to 121 companies.

Thanks for the visitor message Nimbly. I guess you were looking to be coddled and given attaboys when you made this thread. I assume you wrote in response to my good riddance post since I never knew you existed prior.

Please forgive me for my lack of giving a crap about your situation. This is an aviation career website and I rather help people trying to genuinely get started in this industry vs. those who are bailing and wanting congrats on the way out.

When I was in school I used to try to convince people to stay in the industry when they wanted to leave. I realized that is very moronic. Not only are you trying to convince someone to do something they don't want to do for no reason, you are also keeping a grumpy person in this industry. One thing I can't stand is people that stay in this industry that don't like it. They don't try to get new jobs, they don't try to change their situation, they just complain constantly.

I realize it's cool these days to be the big man and say you are quitting and going to Law school or PT school or any other school to do some other "great" job. Lemme tell you the grass isn't always greener. My gf is a Physical Therapist Asst., yeah the jobs are abundant but she deals with a LOT of drama and bs on a daily basis.

I'm on my 4th job in the flying biz and as the post above I started the same time as bumblebeetuna. All those moves were based on my choice including the past two in "down cycle" in the industry. If you bust your ass you can accomplish things.

So there you go, more than a two word response. I figured I owed you something since you knew I was a fat piece of and you've never met me. Good on ya.

Adios.

So uhh..... this thread took an awkward turn, didn't it?

....
Lol, you don't mess with Mike!

Reminds me of the conversation Bumblebee and I had the other day. Why do people find it so fun to fight with someone they don't even know?

Because it's the internet and someone is wrong.

For the life of me, I don't understand why folks jump on a networking website and try to scrap with people who could be sitting on an interview panel one day.

Good Riddance...

Classy.

That's exactly right. My former instrument student walked my resume into my current employer once I got furloughed. You just never know who's going to be there to help you down the road (or not). Playing Billy Badass on the forums for no particular reason is done at your own risk, particularly when your screen name can be easily traced back to your real name.

Not at all... I agree with Mikecweb... so what this guy decided the industry isn't for him. This is a career building forum. If the guy decides the industry isn't for him, that is just one more person out of the line for those of us who are staying.

I've always been amazed at the number of threads on this board by people who feel the need to announce that they are leaving the industry. Do they want a pat on the back or something?

As bad as the number of people that have to announce they're leaving the website....

Its a "goodbye cruel world!!!" thing....

I don't get it.

Aviation is a verrrrry small business.

Especially in a down economy (hopefully) on the verge of a rebound, make pals, not flames.

Hey I know how it is. I love flying for recreation and have never thought twice about it. Especially when I travel on business now, I see the pilots in the airport and think man that could have been me. I would miss my family way too much.

I now have plans to own my own plane in the near future and always look forward to flying.

Yes they do.

Eh, read the thread, there was a reason. And mike isn't "playing", he's giving his opinion (and he is a badass, or at least so my Mom told me). Oh, and rest assured, he has friends who will reach out for him should he need it because he's done the same for them (yes, I'm one of them).

Leave the industry or don't, your call, and I'll certainly not blame you either way. No need to get in to a PM war with a well-respected pilot who has actually walked the walk.
