What must be in your flightbag?

I was all pissed off today about something and happened to be flipping through channels and who do you think I saw? Bob Ross. About 2.4 seconds later, I felt so calm and mellow that I just had to honor him in my own little way.

Oh hells yeah :) I have been meaning to compliment your avatar as of late. Stone is currently in my top 3 favorite brewery choices :)

In my flight bag? Camera.

Local approach plates, local high chart, local VFR sectional, east high approach book, 9G kneeboard, local in flight guide (company stuff), pocket checklist/EP's, approach plate kneestrap, extra flashlight, sunglasses (Spy or Ray ban wraparounds FTW) and case, 8mm HUD tape. Pretty minimal so that I don't worry about losing anything in the cockpit (which will down a jet until maintenance can come take a look). I throw a briefing card onto my 9G before I walk, which has all the local freqs (so I can check the channelized freqs) and callsigns and such.

Funny thing, back in the private pilot days I carried the big ole flight bag, with two detachable headset bags. I would have e6b, plotter, several pens and pencils, gps, two flashlights, calculator, erasable highlighter, extra flghtplans, radio, extra batteries, portable intercom and who knows what else...now, usually just the headset bag with kneeboard, and pen.

I wish I could include a Leatherman or any other multi-tool, but due to the infinite wisdom of the TSA this is deemed way to dangerous for a Part 121 airline crew to bring along. Ha!

I have one (a leatherman) on my belt when I'm flying the tanker (under my flightsuit of course) and that airplane is 4 times the size of my airliner... but in the interest of national security, blah blah blah ... oh and by the way, "Thanks for all you do.":D

But the crash axe is just fine to have with you in the cockpit, so far as the TSA is concerned. :D

I have gotten to the point I just keep my medical in the wallet and bring a headset. I got tired of carrying around a flight bag.

Extra glasses. Extra batteries, Extra "light" (I have magnifying glasses with a lite in them), extra watch. Charts, AFD, E6B (nostalgia).

I want to get a 45. cause if I crash in the everglades at night, I want to be able to shoot the gators.

Basically stuff where I can still see , navigate and survive should the aircraft fail.

Cordially,

b
