Ferry Pilot

Just started serious work as a ferry pilot down here in South FLA. I really should've gotten into this awhile ago. The money is okay and the flight time is good and fun. I've already got a couple trips planned, any my prices are reasonable... no CASS unfortunately.

My experience is at 1400TT with 280 Turbine in the PC-12 and 640 Instruction (CFI/CFII) with 91 Sub K and 135 Cargo experience. I've flown various types of Cessnas, Pipers, and a few Beechcraft too. I'm good to work with and give free instruction on trips... My rates are reasonable.

I know I'm posting this amongst pilots but if there's a trip anyone can't take let me know.
:D

I would have to agree, I have plenty of friends that as they are relocating with the new owner they give some instruction. They are already getting paid for ferrying the aircraft, I really don't think its that much of a hit to just give some instruction in it on the way there.

Just curious, where do you advertise? I am on the left coast, and have tried to get into this, but can't seem to get it off the ground.

You need to have airline privs for everyone of this guys flights. BS, even if you want to pay for your own ticket. I have talked to him in the past, and he won't budge on it.

But what about this......

Whatever arrangement you make with the client is between the two of you, and you agree that I am not responsible in anyway for the aircraft or the transaction.
Which contradicts this......

Low-time and no airline privileges? We don't mean to offend, but our clients want an experienced pilot flying their airplane, and don't want to buy airline tickets, when pilots with passes are available.

But wait......you're only connecting two people up right? The transaction is between them right?

[/SIZE]Did you find out anything about what "Low-time" constitutes? It sounds like this might be reserved for retired airline pilots.

Nope, I never got past the "but we want someone who doesn't have to buy a ticket." He was a little bit rude, so I didn't bother getting into a converstaion about it. Some people consider low time a 250hr wet ticket pilot, and some consider a 3000hr 135 pilot low time. So I guess take your best guess at it.

Thanks for the responses, I talked to Rick and he gave me some good information. Flying is all in who you know, and sometimes being johnny on the spot works out more than experience (as long as your legal of course). That said I've gotten a few bites we'll see if it results in anything. I lower my rates a little bit because the customer has to buy me a ticket, I charge $125/day depending upon the airplane and the nature of the trip.

The free instruction is basically if you want to ride along I'll teach you something along the way. NOT "I'll do anything, even free instruction for a trip!" Thats bad.

If your good at something never do it for free!:)

WTF man.
$125 a day is a joke.
The few guys I know that do this kind of work say $250 is the min.

Are they buying their own airline ticket or riding non-rev?

Aviation really does destroy itself from within.

"Hi, I'd like to ferry that 172 from Atlanta to Los Angeles."

"You buy the airline ticket, pay for your hotels, fuel and food. The customer requests free instruction enroute and is really looking for someone who will pay their expenses for the trip as well."

"No problem! I've got him covered!"

:insane:

FWIW, when I do ferry flights the client pays $294/day + expenses (food, lodging, charts, airline tickets, etc.)

I don't make a full time job out of ferrying, but I do it several times per year.

How much time do you have in the PC-12? Reason being there's a couple places out here looking.

=Jason-

I don't have priveledges. My rate is based on what I made as a CFI for the 172 and 152. I charge more for largerstuff.
