Plane Lands on CA Highway

I know exactly why that plane crashed! NO WINGS!

sure enough look at that picture.

seriously though, there had to be one hell of an impact to shear off that wing.

Running out of fuel = Bad Unless of course your forced landing results in getting a wing sheared off, then No fuel = Good. :insane: Good to see nobody was injured or worse in this one.
 
Absolutely no excuse for running out of fuel in that area. Within about a 50NM radius EVERY AIRPORT has fuel.

There are some serious fails in here...

#1. Plane ran out of gas.
#2. How in the hell do you not see a freaking Piper on a freeway and then proceed to crash into it!!!

Maybe th shock of seeing a plane just make an emergency landing on the highway shocks you enough to freeze up? Just taking a wild guess.
 
explain that to your car insurance company.

"I hit an airplane."

I'm ok with the making mistakes part. What I am not ok with is someone who can get in an airplane and not even think to check the fuel...doesn't get concerned enough with a low fuel situation to make an unscheduled stop.
 
I guess I just missed it on my way back from Pismo. The 101 was a parking lot!

Did the wings come off before it was hit by the cars? I figured all the damage was caused by the cars.
 
Pilot says the fuel selector valve broke in flight so he could not switch tanks. He radioed SBA to tell him he would run out of fuel and land on the highway.
