Possible Mid-Air over Hudson.

MSNBC is covering it now. It's a beautifully clear day here, so doubt wx was the issue.

Small plane and helicopter collide...This should shut down the exclusion zone for good.

RIP those involved.:(

Dang... keep those heads up. That corridor is a insane from what I've heard. Hope all turns out okay.

Damn... sad stuff.

I've flown that corridor multiple times. On a weekend nice day like this it can get very busy. It is very important to have all your lights on and make the proper position reports as often as you can.

One of the first times I have done it, I got scolded by one of the helicopter pilots for not making enough reports, and for good reason.

The corridor is one place you need to keep your eyes opend and listen to the radio. I hope this accident doesnt shut it down for good.

I was over lady liberty when the mid air occurred today... Heard something over the radio about it but did not assume anything too bad. It was not till I got back to BLM and my fiance texted me about it that I found out the whole story. The HRC was packed today. I made it up to the GW and turned around. Lots of rotor and GA traffic.

So sad though. RIP to those who did not make it.

Senator Schumer is going to have a field day with this one. I'm pretty sure this will get the corridor shut down, or at least suspended indefinitely.

What I find interesting is the plane was confirmed to have just taken off from TEB.

Yeah, taking off TEB to the north-east then stay at 1,100 and swing south just as you pass over the Hudson north of the GW. Great run. Done that corridor couple dozen times.

Corey Lidel and his instructor's mistake basically closed down the east river corridor a few years ago. They didn't know the area and shouldn't have been flying. Who knows what will turn up when more info is learned about this piper flying today. You shouldn't fly that area unless you are with someone who is familiar with the call outs for the position reports. There's not much room for error.

I've done it before, but from ISP. I guess that's not too much of a deal. What sucks is both aircraft probably weren't in the air for too long. The helo is from Liberty Tours.

Stupid Fox News reporter woman (live):

"....The other aircraft, possibly a Piper PA-32, has had 10 accidents in the last 10 years. I'm not an expert, but that doesn't sound like a plane I'd feel safe flying in......"

:banghead:

If they're such drama queens when it comes to aviation, they're probably drama queens on other issues they cover too.

WPIX 11 reporter here in Teterboro:

"We don't know if it was a mid-air collision between the two aircraft, or whether the wing of the airplane hit the chopper"

...And next the Mayor will pull a Daley and want to ban small a/c traffic from around the area. No more VFR flights up and down the Hudson....
