Recommended Hoods/Foggles?

Hi, I am starting my instrument training and am looking for a hood or foggles. I have glasses and am looking for those foggles which you can clip on and/or flip up/down whenever one needs to. I have rimless glasses which might or might not be a problem and am just posting because I have browsed through a few foggles online, but don't really know if they will fit over my glasses or be comfortable. I just want to know what some of you (those who wear glasses preferably) recommend. Please post links to sites because I am looking to purchase them online. Thanks.

I used the jeppesen hood during my instrument training while wearing glasses and it worked fine for me.

use safety goggles with tape around the sides for the training and then use the actual Jepps for the checkride

I wore foggles over my glasses and it worked well for the most part. I would recommend the clip on foggles though if your earpieces are very thick as having both on can cause some pressure. I also like the jeppeson flip down. I'd say see if you can try out each kind from friends/cfis that already have them, and then pick the ones that you like the best.

That's awesome man. And I actually have a pair of safety lab goggles in my house. Mind if i steal your idea? Ehh??

I use Foggles now, they work for what their purpose is. I used JeppShades during my private hood work, liked them a lot but was in a pinch before my checkride so I picked up some foggles.

I'd recommend anything but the "cone of stupidity" <- Oh man, I know I'm going to draw fire for that one!

I bought the clip on pair from Sportys that clip to the front of your glasses. Granted, I usually wear my Ray Ban sunglasses, and they clip onto those perfectly. The kind that I got were the frosted color with clear around the nose. When you are done under the hood, just flip them up and they are out of the way. My sunglasses do have rims, but I highly recommend the clip on type--they were great for me!

My foggles looked like those black blockalls after I got finished fine tuning them with electrical tape. Since sunglasses would just be one more thing being crammed in between your ear cuffs and your head, the tape also works wonders when flying later in the evening with the sun in your face as well as helping eliminate a big peep holes around the corners.

I had some foggle's for a while, until they disappeared (aka, forgot about them in the plane. After that, I decided that I was going to get something that was a little bit more comfortable. I ended up with the Viban hood. It works really well, and blocks everything out fairly well.

I prefer the standard sporty's model. I bought the ones that are tinted which comes in handy especially here in PHX plus I dont have to wear sunglasses underneath.

For clipping on glasses, ASA makes Overcasters, they clip on to standard glasses and flip up and down as needed. About $20 and slips into you shirt pocket when you're not using them. I've been using them on my Instrument training and I love them. Some people tell me there delicate but I've not had any problems.

my vote is for Viban. They're not flip up but they are the most comfortable with or without glasses. They also do an excellent job of limiting your view to the instruments

The only requirement for foggles in the FARs is during a practical test. As long as your instructor is satisfied that you aren't looking out the windows, you are fine. So yeah, I'd agree with "baseball cap."

Just fly in actual as much as possible. Not being able to see out the windows is a minor part of flying IFR. The bumps and turbulence you pick up in the clouds, icing, avoiding thunderstorms, wind shear, etc are the things that you need to be worried about too. Foggles do nothing to replicate this.

Level flight with foggles is easy on a clear day. The bumps make it much harder, and they are generally found in the clouds.
