PilotShirts.com?

What's this "new joint"? Are you referring to any of the shirts now purchased on pilot-shirts.com?

I think he means his pilotshirt.coms came from when he was at CHQ and the "new joint" would be the ones he got from Polar.

I've got two Van Hausen. They're back-ups to my M&Hs b/c they fit horribly. The M&Hs are getting retired next month, and I'm getting pilotshirt.com ones.

I have the TOFSE Tapered Oxford, Flap pkt, SS, w/Eyelets and they hold up very well. They also look way better than the generic pilot shirts. As far as stains go, buy yourself a clorox bleach pen. Pen stains no more.

Nice try, but totally unrelated.

The Van Heusen shirts didn't last nearly as long as the M&H uniform shirts from the company. Ripped out buttons that can't be sewn back because of the holes, fraying fabric, threads coming apart, etc. I want a higher quality shirt that will last longer so that I don't have to buy the shirts as often. I will spend $9 more for a shirt if it will last me longer and save me money in the long run.

Work shirts are a necessity. I now only have two of them that are actually wearable. I need a total of 4 shirts for a hot 95 degree cockpit in the summer on a 4-day trip.

2 things....

No 95 degree days in LGA this summer.

And- YOU HAVE AN APU!!! I don't want to hear another word about it.

BTW- What's the deal with Air Wisconsin using the Colgan Air Carts in LGA? Can't handle the MEL'd APU, eh?

Of course not! You aren't allowed to break a sweat in a jet. What would the passengers think? You silly Saab guys....:D

With no APU the plane won't ever cool off on the ground with people in the back. I've been in Saabs and 1900's, you guys have some great packs and a small area to cool down. Once the RJ gets hot you basically have to cancel the flights because it'll be too hot. Some CA's are sticklers and won't board with no air hooked up.

In some of our planes WITH an APU in MEM in the summer, the plane won't cool off in the back. And call me a stickler. I don't board if it's hot and no air hooked up.

Seriously guys? The shirts are $25 compared to $18. That's $7. If you buy four shirts, you're spending $28 more on quality clothing that you wear every week. It's not like you're buying some dress shirts that you'll wear only to formal events. This is your uniform, and if you guys are like me, you spend a lot of time in it.

Go with the quality pilotshirts.com tapered oxford shirts. They are a very durable shirt, and best of all they don't wrinkle too badly even on hot days. I've been wearing these shirts my entire career, and I'll never go with anything different (unless I happen to go to JetBlue, since they don't make blue shirts).

I understand wanting to save money, but when it comes to my uniform, I try to maintain a balance. Don't buy extremely expensive stuff (like anything from Cintas), but also don't get the cheapest stuff on the market. I don't want to look cheap... I want to look professional.

What I hate is that when they hook up the ground air, it ususally has a huge kink in the hose where it enters the airplane. Doesn't do any good that way. I've gotten where I ask rampers to remove big kinks from the hoses on my post flight walkaround.

:yeahthat:

Part of being a professional is how you look. Less than $30 difference for four shirts, I will take the nicer shirts.

I wear one shirt for the whole 5 day.... I have been doing this for 5 months, same shirt. It's a VH. Looks fine. Never heard a complaint. Maybe once my company starts paying for the uniform they make us wear, I'll give a . They get what they pay for...

Wow...

2 things....

1) Most of our Dash 8s (the HA tail numbers) are the older Dash 8s from Piedmont (before Allegheny) that do not have the newer A/C mods that Bombardier made and are not efficient enough to cool the cabin to a comfortable temperature when it is 72 degrees F or above outside. The airplane I had today had 3 lower ducts by your feet (most have just 1 or 2) - two of the ducts had only cool air with barely any airflow and the 3rd duct literally had hot air flowing through it (for some odd reason...so we speed-taped it shut...and it still was leaking through). IF there is cool air it is not enough and barely blows cold. The passengers today were complaining about it being too hot and it was only 72 degrees on the ground. After today, my shirt is done - I was sweating all day.

Now, the Allegheny planes (the ones with the EX tail number) have the newer A/C mods that blow nice cold air. It is hit or miss and you're lucky to get one of these. Some of these Allegheny planes don't even blow fast enough and don't blow cold enough air even through they have the corner vent A/C mod installed that should be blowing nice cold air on your face like most of the newer Dash 8s do.

2) See above. If it is 72-74 degrees F or above, it is too dang hot in the cockpit and cabin for most of our airplanes. The APU makes no difference if the A/C system sucks.

This is the crap we have to do to be slightly more cool than being in a 120 degree sauna. We have to mod the crappy single duct we get with barely any airflow with speedtape to redirect the slightly cool air to our faces. There is no airflow and it sucks sweaty balls! (no pun intended):

Purchased a beefy oxford shirt from pilot shirts. Not a fan of the material returned it the same day. The pinpoint is probably nice. I purchased 2 shirts from http://www.landerwoodshirts.com/index.html. Very wonderful shirts. Spoke with the owner he is a great guy. Love the shirts. $35 though. May want to get them with the uniform check

Tried them, but didn't like them... Collar was too tall or my neck was way too short. Also, didn't like the way the snaps of the pockets shown through... Good idea though...

Ditto, collar too tall, snap was ugly, velcro is way better. Didn't like the material either and it really didn't fit any better than one of pilotshirts tapered shirts.

Are these the shirts to by when my size is "small" at abercrombie and fitch?

My experience with the M+H shirts is what was said above: I have the proper collar fit, but it seems everything else was sewn for an overweight pilot. I guess they expect that after all that airport food. Is this a place thats recommended for those of us who present a "stick figure?"
