First MidEx E190

It is a wonderful industry to be in, huh?? And people are STILL beating the doors down trying to get in on the race to the bottom.

Don't tell that to my FO from last month who wants to fly the Q400 at Brasilia rates just to get his thousand and move on. More and more gray hairs.

Business is business. As another thread on here is going on. A business isn't there to give things to the employee's; they're there to make a profit. The company decided the path it was going down wasn't profitable, and decided to act. They gave the people who were already working at Midwest a chance to fix the problem, and they were laughed at. So, the business did what they needed to do to keep the shareholders happy, and try to make them profitable.

The Republic pilot's had nothing to do with the contracts. The only pilots to blame should be the Midwest pilots, because they were not willing to work to save their jobs.

Buddy do all of us a favor and don't apply to the airlines unless you change that mentality of yours. Quit ruining this industry. I'm assuming your a CFI? That's pretty ballsy of you to have a opinion like that with the minimal experience you have.

YX may have been a stepping stone at one time (and I think that's debatable) just as Republic is considered a stepping stone now, but what you are missing is that YX made it. They managed to transform themselves from a regional player to something that was considered a Major, with a pay scale (almost) to match. And yet, somehow, they managed to get dragged back down to the regional level of Republic and all of us other sorry ass RJ drivers.

Personally I won't go down the road of Republic pilots are destroying the industry (despite having to listen to one complain that they were going to a mainline get and we were going to an express gate so we should wait for them this evening in CLT). However, Republic (as a company) has destroyed a Major Airline. End of story.

Is it possible that *someday* Republic will themselves become a Major (with Major like work rules and pay)? Maybe. THAT will depend on the testicular fortitude of the pilot group. I'd like to say I'm optimistic but I just don't know.

EDIT: I don't mean to tick anybody off or offend anybody with this post. I'm currently having a hell of a night and may be taking it out a bit through the keyboard.

That Testicular fortitude........can you pass it on to our pilot group? You should see our forums with the kids drooling at the chance to fly the Q400 at what ever rate mgmt wants to get the growth. All the sr guys telling them not to make the same mistake, but no matter what you tell them, they keep giving reasons to justify it.

I think the Midex Paint is cool...not on a 190 though but is it just me but as soon as that coat dries the plane looks like it is 30 years old with their paint job.

Who's going to argue that MidEx ran out of money? They wouldn't even exist without RAH's funds....

That, I believe, is a fact.

RD

Same with US Air and Air Whisky, but I don't see those guys saying "Oooh! A 757!" I'm with Ethan. I REALLY hope Republic's pilots get a major level contract once the dust settles on this. If not, it's just another punch in the face to the rest of us.

Wow. Please stick to your airport pattern. About the only thing that has any merit on the post above is sentence number 1.

I guess I don't understand why people complain about the industry in general. If you don't like it, quit. Its a simple as that. No one is forcing you to fly. It amazes me as to how much complaining goes on about this and that, when you don't have to be a pilot.

On the related topic. I think it looks good. Not quite as good as the ERJ-135 pictures I saw, but it looks good. Can't wait to see it flying

Quit and go where? So you can swoop right in and take that 12 dollar per hour flying job?

Putting the politics aside, I believe control surfaces are always removed for painting. New aircraft I saw come off the line at Boeing were unpainted everywhere except for the control surfaces. They are painted separately so their balance can be checked and maintained. You can imagine if the paint guys really lobbed the paint on one side of an aileron and not the other that would mess up the trim.

One word.

Standards.

Some has them. Some has them not.

On that note, the plane looks BAD ASS! :sarcasm:

I'm doubtful our place down in GLH takes control surfaces off. I wouldn't trust them to put them back on correctly. In addition to that, the AMLs don't have a new airworthiness sign off. Something of that critical nature would no doubt require a MX inspection. I had to get a ferry permit faxed one day to fly one back b/c the service check was out of date. If they're taking control surfaces off, they damn well at LEAST better do a service check.

Very interesting. Never thought the 190 rumors would result in Midwest colors.

For the current conversation:

Like rd757 said, w/o funding, Midwest would have likely been reduced to nothing. I wouldn't agree at all that RAH is ruining anything. They are taking a product and retooling it. I would love to improve it. I would also love to get all those MidEx guys and gals their jobs back, with good pay. Those of you that just want to wander over to the corner and bang your heads on the wall, make sure you move out of the way while the rest of us try to make some good in the industry.

Try not to fret over what you can't control and control what you CAN control.

I guess I just don't have a lot of faith in airline management. Like I said, I hope the RAH guys can get the rates they deserve for flying the E190. If they do, fantastic. If not, well, it's just another rung on the ladder above me falling off.

Does this place just do retouching or entire new livery?

GLH does entire repaints. SOMETIMES (if the company pays) they actually strip the old paint off, but not always. Like Steve said, I wouldn't trust them to remove the control surfaces and put them back on correctly. It's pretty ghetto down there.

I'm guessing the rudder is composite and hence doesn't get painted, but rather dyed.
