Are the airlines to blame for our low wages? Not really.

Do we really expect them to just pays us more out of the goodness of their hearts? No one does that. Would you if you ran one? Call me a scumbag but I probably wouldn't either. With all the great labor laws this country has, almost none of the good ones apply to us. Not even minimum wage ones if you include all the duty hours we put in.

My point is that we need to address our aggression and disgust to where it is due...The US Government. Someone on another forum started a thread about witting your Congressman and I think he's got the right idea. I just sent an e-mail myself and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Oh yeah...to all the folks out there that say "if you don't like it just quit"....<edit> you!! I don't like it, I'm not quitting and I won't quit bitching
till it's much better. These laws need to change. Then the reform the airlines need so much can begin.

Finally, ALPA representatives, please explain to me why it takes so long to draw up a contract and end negotiations with a simple vote or send the thing to a mediator. Going on 3 years with Pinnacle is it? Why? I know it's not as simple as going on Wikipedia and printing something out but this is what you do isn't it? Why does it seem like you suck at it so much? I invite any criticism for me saying that but hopefully some enlightenment as well.
Flame away...

It is called the RLA.

Do you really think it is the US Government's place to dictate what private/public companies should pay their employees?

It is though under the RLA. And changing it might not be a good idea.

So what's the solution then? If it's so perfect the way it is, why am I making $20k a year and can't strike about it? No one's saying loose it completely but change seems like it's way overdue.
And can you expand on your answer to why things take so long? What part of the RLA says things have to take 3 years? ALPA's been doing this for almost 80 years and what do they have to show for it?

No, you are. You took the job. Wages were known and posted. I, for the life of me, can't figure out why people take the job, knowing what the pay scale is and then do nothing more than B&M.

Isn't this what Obama did when he said CEO pay should be capped?
Yes. And as you know in that case the cap applies to bank CEOs who accepted a bailout. Right or wrong the government believes that by capping pay they are protecting their investment. In my opinion though, you don't have to worry about meddling with CEO pay if you don't loan the company billions of dollars in the first place. ;)

Thanks. Now I see clearly. It's all the pilot's fault. Giving up all our goals and aspirations was the solution all along.

A bailout which never should've been offered nor accepted. But that's a whole different animal beyond our scope here.

No, you should have gone to work for a carrier that pays more, thats all.

Like who? We're all (regionals at least) underpaid. Some just more than others. And when you take domicile and hiring status in consideration...well, it's a no win situations for us. Also, the demand is less then the supply so that doesn't help.

BTW if you don't wanna read Bitching & Moaning it might not be a good idea to be on a pilot forum. Although, any of your constructive and helpful critisism is very much apprecciated

I think that if you read the mission statement of this website you'd recondsider that. I'm not the founder, but I don't think I'd be going to far out on a limb to say that the reason this website was founded was to educate, answer questions and help the next guy coming up-not to belly ache and complain.

Seriously, if no one complains about the pay to higher authority, then how are they going to know about the trials and tribulations that airline pilots go throught just to ge to work.

The mainstream media is very surprised of how much regional pilots make. Now that they know more, shouldn't we speak up to the media about reasons why we sleep in crew lounges and like that? Why we can't afford to stay in a hotel at our base the night before our flight the next day?

If we don't make up an argument together, everyone is going to think that we like being treated like the mainline bastard children on welfare.
