C182 Missing...

I've been getting calls here at the airport for about 30 minutes about a missing 182. Indy Center lost contact with it just north of here (LOZ). It was reported to be flying VFR, and it's definitely hard IMC out there (OVC 400 2SM). Hopefully, everything works out, but it wouldnt hurt to say a little prayer.

I worked at an FBO for a while and got that call once. It's a bummer. VFR in IMC conditions. That doesn't turn out well very often.

The latest report...

The State Police have received a report of an "eyewitness" account of the airplane going down about 25m west of here. The CAP and other agencies are searching but have yet to find anything. When I hear more significant news I'll post.

Terrible news...I hope it's no one I know. :(

FINAL UPDATE!...

Okay, so the 182 was NEVER missing!! It made a scud run from Lousiville to a small private strip in North Carolina! Center had everyone in an uproar over an airplane that was never missing! I'm extremely glad everyone is okay and that it was just a misunderstanding that ATC started :banghead:! Apparently, they were watching him (he had filed no flight plan) and when they lost radar contact they assumed he had crashed (or he was going to). While flying 500AGL the whole way is perfectly legal, IF he didnt bust any clouds, it's still looked at as risk-taking. Glad it all turned out okay!!

...and as far as the "eyewitness" account of a plane going down......we ALL know how that goes!

Lucky him, most pilots begin scud running but never quite finish. They just sort of stop scud running when they hit he ground.

Did you get the tailnumber by chance? Curious if I saw them take off.

Glad to hear they are okay then! I know a guy down there around the London, KY area, and thought it could have been him, turned out it wasn't.

Thats what I think should happen! I've worked for the Sheriff Department here, and calling in a false report is an arrestable offense! An aircraft accident is not some glorious way to get attention...and should not be taken lightly!
