Got an email asking to go to Louisiana?

So I don't know how many people got it, but apparently there's a need in LA for ATCs. I'm from PUBNAT2 and didn't get an invite to the PEPC after submitting FL & GA as my geo picks. I got an email today saying that its "not a job offer" but they're wondering if I'd be interested in LA as a geographical preference.

So if I say yes...my assumption is that I'll have to attend the next PEPC and then they'll give me a TOL (which will probably be for LA). I remember when I went to do my AT-SAT test, the proctor was a retired ATC and told me that whatever offer I get, if I'm not happy with it, then politely thank them for the opportunity and ask them what would happen if you declined.

Has anyone declined their TOL and been offered somewhere else? Or declined it and took an offer from a subsequent PUBNAT that they applied to?

First, I want to say that I am happy for you. I was rooting for you when we all found out if we were selected. LA is a great opportunity.

Second, they are asking you if you want to go to Louisiana. Accepting this only to decline it at the pepc is unethical.

Third, The FAA head honcho guy at the Kansas City pepc said to all of us that there would be NO NEGOTIATIONS. You could accept the position you were invited for or decline it. If you decline it...the process would stop and you would be escorted out. It was actually funny because we had a guy that didn't quite understand that this wasn't a negotiation.

Awww...thanks for rooting for me! LOL! As you can see, I've been M.I.A. since I found out I wasn't picked. Honestly, what's the point of sticking around on the boards when you have nothing else to talk about?

I got the email first and then I saw that there was a PUBNAT7. I'm going do some researching later to see if there's ANY city in LA that I'd even consider living in. If not, then I'll decline and hope I get picked up in PUBNAT7.

I received this email too, however, the email says this is not a job offer and it's just asking if I'd be willing to consider Louisiana as a geo pref. They seem to need people for Louisiana pretty badly, since they also provided a list of facilities and we're asked to rank them in the order in which we'd prefer them.

Anyway, I'll be turning this down... I'm not moving to Louisiana... but I hope someone else gets the position they want out of this

I got this email.

I've declined a TOL and wasn't selected for pubnat 2. But I also don't really have an interest in moving to LA. I mean sure, there's New Orleans, which also happened to be lucky enough to be named most dangerous city this year averaging a murder every 40 hours.

I'm good.

I feel the same way (kinda). It may not be a job offer, but I guarantee that if I do consider LA as a geo pref, that if/when I do make it to the PEPC...I'm 99.9% sure that my TOL will say LA. Grrr! :whatever:

Which is exactly why I'm turning it down... I feel like it's ok to decline this since I'm not turning down an actual job offer and I don't want my TOL to say LA

Got the same email. I've flowin into all those airports before and BTR and MSY are not that bad, but living there seems like it would be tough. I hope some other states come out of PUBNAT2.

I guess I might be the only one considering this? Which might work out as well.

I've lived in CT my whole life. I'm only 22, and my fiancee is willing to go pretty much anywhere with me, as her job allows for transferring just about anywhere in the country.

With most of them being level 7 facilities, that's not a bad paycheck in a poor economy. And real estate is dirt cheap... just might have to deal with the water damage. :)

I guess I'm still kind of fighting with myself.

aperfectool - I'm in the same boat.

I got the letter too and I've been tossing around the idea for the past few hours. I'll need to talk it over with the girlfriend first - she's an RN and can go pretty much anywhere but that is, of course, only if she wants to.

I spoke to the HR assistant who sent the email and he said if I decline Louisiana it only removes that state as an option - but leaves all of my other geographic preferences open.

Figured I would post the e-mail because nobody else did:

Well, you get down the fiddle and you get down the bow,
Kick off your shoes and you throw ‘em on the floor.
Dance in the kitchen 'til the morning light:
Louisiana Saturday night.

Waiting in the front yard, sitting on a log;
Single shot rifle and a one-eyed dog.
Yonder come my kin folk in the moonlight:
Louisiana Saturday night.

My brother Bill an' my other brother Jack,
Belly full o'beer and a possum in a sack.
Fifteen kids in the front porch light:
Louisiana Saturday night!

When the kinfolk leave an' the kids get fed,
Me an' my woman gonna slip off to bed.
Have a little fun when we turn out the lights!
Louisiana Saturday night!

I will be kind of sore if I see a lot of people on this board get a New Orleans offer considering I live in the neighboring parish (county) and got selected for Baton Rouge. At least it's only about a 2 hour drive from where I live to Baton Rouge, so still not so bad. It's a 15 minute drive to NEW where I live now, and about 40 minutes to MSY.

Good luck to anyone who applies though. And Louisiana's not that bad guys (and girls). I've visited Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans and none of them are bad cities, but Baton Rouge traffic SUCKS! bad. Cars in the neutral ground (median) all the freaking time.

MMPI-2 tomorrow then I continue waiting on my background check, about 1-2 weeks into that now. Guess it'll just be a wait on a class date from here.

Oh, and I was Pubnat2 also. My geo pref was LA.

I got the email and responded with a resounding hell yes. What an opportunity - good pay and a crappy real estate market. I'll get meself an english mastiff that licks my face and growls at bad guys and call it a day:D. I couldn't be happier - New Orleans, even post katrina, is a heck of a town.

Our real este market is caught in a bubble that isn't being affected by the economy crash, so prices are still pretty solid down here. It's hilarious that I also have an english mastiff that licks my face, but runs and cries from strangers. He's 10 months old and weighs about 130lbs.
